Big Tree Campervans informationBig Tree Campervans is a small family business, We are based in Bankfoot, a small village about 6 miles north of the beautiful city of Perth, right in the very heart of Scotland.
We love campervans, and love holidays in Scotland. We've over 30 years experience of travelling, exploring, climbing and canoeing across all of Scotland, either under canvas, in our campervans, in caravans, or in motorhomes. Between us, we have enjoyed countless holidays in Scotland, across the UK, and throughout Europe. Simon's love of campervans can probably be blamed on his parents, who bought their first Dormobile called 'Polly' in 1968, and drove Simon and his brother off to Bulgaria for the summer!
Our aim at Big Tree Campervans is simple: to help you create your own adventure - experience an unbeatable holiday exploring all the fantastic places in Scotland.

If this happens, you must ring us and we may be able to arrange extension to the insurance cover, but a fee of £25 will be charged, plus any additional premium if levied by the insurance company.
5.6 The terms of our policy mean that we cannot arrange Collision Damage Waivers, but it is normally possible for you to do this yourself if you want to – contact us for more details.
5.7 The Insurance Policy does not provide cover of any sort for your own personal property – we recommend you take out your own travel insurance.

7. Collecting Your Campervan
7.1 We will advise in the Booking Confirmation when and where your Campervan can be collected. During the busy summer period (May – August) this will normally be between 3.00pm and 5.30pm on Saturday. Outside the busier summer months we can usually be more flexible, and we can agree a suitable time with you for you to collect the Campervan between 10.00am and 5.30pm provided that this does not conflict with the timing of other bookings. While we will always seek to avoid doing so, we reserve the right to change the time of collection at any time up until 48 hours prior to the date of commencement of your Hire Period.
7.2 You can park your car free of charge at our premises for the duration of your Hire Period. Any car left at our premises is left entirely at your own risk and we accept no liability for any loss or damage suffered to any car or its contents.
7.3 If you are late in collecting your Campervan from us, you will not be entitled to either a refund of any sums paid to us or an extension to your Hire Period. If you have not collected your Campervan from us within 24 hours of the time noted in the Booking Confirmation we reserve the right to cancel your booking without any notification. In such circumstances we are entitled to charge you the whole of the Hire Price in accordance with Condition 4.1.3 above, and you will not be entitled to a refund of any sums paid to us. If you know you are going to be late then please contact us, as we may be able to agree revised arrangements with you.
7.4 When collecting your Campervan, you should allow a period of 30 to 45 minutes for collection to allow us to show you around your Campervan, and for you to transfer your belongings to the Campervan.
8. Security Deposit
8.1. When you collect the Campervan we will take a Security Deposit from you. We will do this by taking your Credit Card details, and by providing these you are authorising us to process payment of the Security Deposit at any time during the Hire Period or the 14 days following the end of the Hire Period.
8.2. You authorise Big Tree Campervans to deduct from the Security Deposit any amount payable to us under these Terms and Conditions in relation to any damage, breakage or other costs incurred as a result of any breach of these Terms and Conditions or as a result of your negligent act or omission.

8.3.3. with a full tank of the appropriate fuel (including LPG if applicable);

8.3.6. without any fines, penalties, charges or unpaid road or bridge tolls having been incurred.
8.4 The charges applicable to Condition 8.3 are shown in Condition 12 below.
8.5 We will not be liable for any fines, penalties, charges, costs or unpaid road or bridge tolls incurred during your Hire Period, and in the event that we require to meet these then we reserve the right to seek payment of these from you, and you authorise us to deduct these from the Security Deposit. In the event that we refund your Security Deposit in full and we subsequently establish that you have incurred any of the liabilities listed above, we reserve the right to recover any such cost from you by deducting this from your Credit Card, together with a £25 administration charge.
8.6 If the costs due to us by you, or the loss or damage suffered by us as a result of any breach by you of these Terms and Conditions, is greater than the amount of the Security Deposit, then we shall retain the whole of the Security Deposit and seek an additional payment from you for the balance of the amount owed to us.

10.1. Included within your Hire Price is AA Roadside Breakdown cover. If the Campervan breaks down during your Hire Period, you should contact the AA on the numbers provided in the AA Roadside Breakdown documents which are in your Campervan. In the event of a breakdown, you must also contact us as soon as possible so we know what is happening and can establish whether we can help.
10.2. You can use the AA Roadside Breakdown cover to help repair/replace a damaged/punctured tyre, or the windscreen of the Campervan. However, you are liable for the full cost of any damage to the windscreen (including the cost of any replacement) and the cost of tyre damage or punctures (including the cost of replacing any tyres).
10.3. If you have a Campervan fitted with LPG, you may not have a spare wheel, but you will have a Tyreweld Emergency Puncture Repair Kit, including a tyre compressor. In the unlikely event that the Tyreweld Emergency Puncture Repair Kit cannot repair the damaged/punctured tyre, you must ring AA Roadside breakdown who will take you to the nearest garage where the tyre can be repaired or replaced, and you will be liable for the full cost of the repair/replacement.
10.4. You are authorised to instruct repairs to the Campervan and the purchase replacement of parts up to a maximum cost of £100. In the event that you do instruct any repairs or replacement parts, you should obtain a receipt, and we will refund this to you at the end of the hire. If you do not keep a receipt, we reserve the right to refuse the reimbursement of any costs incurred by you. Any repairs or replacement parts in excess of £100 must be approved by us before the work is undertaken or the parts ordered. We will not reimburse any costs incurred in excess of £100 unless prior approval is obtained.
10.5. If the Campervan suffers a breakdown and cannot be repaired or made roadworthy within a period of 24 hours, we will try our best to make an alternative Campervan available to you. However, this may not always be possible and we cannot guarantee that a replacement Campervan will be available. In the event that we are unable to supply a replacement Campervan, we will reimburse the cost of each day’s hire charge for each day’s full loss of hire, unless we in our sole discretion consider that your act or omission has caused the breakdown.
11. If you have an accident or damage the Campervan
11.1. If you are involved in an accident involving the Campervan, you must:-
11.1.1. not admit guilt or liability or do/say anything which may be treated as an admission of guilt or liability;
11.1.2. take a record of the names, addresses and (as appropriate) insurance details of all 3rd parties involved and any witnesses;

11.1.6. not abandon the Campervan without taking all reasonable steps to prevent any further damage or loss;
11.1.7. not drive the Campervan without our permission;
11.1.8. return the fully completed accident report form to us when you return the Campervan; and
11.1.9. in accordance with Condition 5.4, pay the excess due under the Insurance Policy to us.
11.2. If the Campervan cannot be repaired or made roadworthy within a period of 24 hours, we will try our best to make an alternative Campervan available to you, unless we in our sole discretion consider that your act or omission has caused the accident. However, this may not always be possible and we cannot guarantee that a replacement Campervan will be available. We will not refund any of the Hire Price, or other ancillary charges, if we are unable to provide you with a replacement Campervan.
11.3. If you damage the Campervan in any way (for example, smash a headlight, break an interior door handle, or break the tap fitting), it is very important that you contact us as soon as possible to let us know. This is particularly important to allow us to help you fix the problem if possible, and also if we need to order any replacement parts for refitting on the day you return the Campervan at the end of your hire so it is ready for use again.
12. Returning your Campervan
12.1. We will advise in the Booking Confirmation when and where your Campervan must be returned. Returning the Campervan to us on time is really important as we often work to tight turnaround schedules. If you believe that you might not be able to return the Campervan to us at the specified time, you must let us know as soon as possible.
12.2. We reserve the right to levy the following charges, by deduction from your Security Deposit or otherwise:-

12.2.4. £50 Porta-Potti emptying charge if the Porta-Potti is not returned empty and clean; and
12.2.5. £50 cleaning charge if the Campervan interior is dirty/soiled. This charge shall be applied at our sole discretion, subject always to an obligation on us to act reasonably.
13.1. We will not be liable for any death or personal injury sustained by you, any member of your party, or any third party except as arising directly as a result of our negligence.
13.2. We will not be liable for any costs incurred in connection with any replacement vehicle costs, travel or accommodation costs or other losses resulting directly or indirectly from any unavailability, breakdown or other failure of a Campervan.
14. Title/Ownership of the Campervan

Questions We're Often Asked
These are some of the questions we're asked most frequently. There is more detail on some of them in the Terms & Conditions, but if there's anything you're not sure of, or want to ask, simply give us a ring!
Where are the best campsites and wild camping places?
Scotland is simply full of great campsites and great places to pull your Big Tree Campervan off the roads and wild camp. The beauty of a Big Tree Campervan is that you can choose to stay at regular campsites, or simply find yourself a fantastic wild camping place. When you book with us we'll also let you into a few of our best wild camping spots! Two important things to remember when wild camping: 1 - the Scottish Outdoor Access Code, which provides guidance on responsible behaviour, we'll make sure there is a copy in your Campervan; 2 - common sense, take all your rubbish away with you, be very very careful with fires (our gas BBQs are great for cooking up a feast outdoors), and make sure you leave the spot as beautiful as you found it for the next person.
How long can the campervan operate without a mains hook-up?
If you use the internal lights sensibly, you should be able to spend a couple of nights with things powered by the leisure battery. If you do need to re-charge, then you can simply run the engine for a little while.
How many can the campervans seat?
Five belted seats, four with 3-point belts, and one with a secure waist belt.
How many can the campervan sleep in comfort?
The double bed 'downstairs' sleeps 2 adults in comfort, and the double bed in the elevating roof again sleeps 2 adults - but if you're well over 6ft tall, you may find the elevating roof bed a bit of a squeeze. Adding the drive-away awning gives loads more sleeping space, including a specific sleeping compartment for two. Even if there are four of you plus a 'little one', we can provide a hammock style bed which fits over the front seats.
Can I take my dog in the campervan?
Good news for all here - one of our campervans is 'dog-friendly', and all we ask is that you use the comfy dog-rugs provided, and give it a good clean before you return it. We do make sure the dog-friendly campervan is spotless before it goes out again. The other campervans are 'pet-free'. Give us a ring if you have any specific request about pets or 'no pets'
How flexible can you be about collection and return times?
We aim to be as flexible as possible about the timings of when you collect and return your campervan. During the really busy summer months (May - August) when we've got a lot of consecutive bookings and we have a minimum booking of 7 days, you'll normally be able to collect your campervan between 4.00pm and 6.00pm on Saturday, and you'll need to return it before 11.00am the following Saturday. Even in the busy summer months, flexibility is the key, so if the weekly times don't quite fit in with your schedule (maybe you have a midweek flight), then simply give us a call and we can see what we can do to make things work for you. Outside the busy summer months we can be much more flexible and you can usually collect and return your campervan anytime between 10.00am and 7.00pm, as long as it doesn't conflict with the timings of other bookings.
Can I really use the campervans in the winter?
Yes! The campervans are well-insulated, and the hot air heater really will warm up the campervan very quickly even when it's well below freezing outside. The fresh water tank is inside, so there's no chance of anything freezing up. We also can supply additional front window insulation pads for extra warmth.
What do I need to bring with me on my holiday?
It depends on the adventure you're creating! Have a look through the 'Rates Include' and the 'Additional Extras' sections to make sure you've got all the basics. There's lots of storage space for clothes, but bear in mind this isn't a hotel room with a double wardrobe, so plan your clothing sensibly! The same goes for your outdoor gear - plenty of space available, but our top tip is think neat, think simple.
What is the insurance cover?
Your insurance is included in the rental price, and covers one driver aged 25-70, with a full, clean UK driving licence. Our insurance company can arrange, with an additional premium, insurance cover for additional drivers, drivers 21-24, over 70, non-UK drivers, and drivers with points on their licences.
Can I take the Campervan abroad?
Our insurance only covers UK travel. But, give us a ring and we can talk to the insurers and try and sort something out.
Is there a mileage restriction?
Can I do a one-way hire?
If we can fit it in with other bookings, then the answer should be 'yes'. There will be a charge for this. In some circumstances we may be able to deliver the campervan to your home, but this is probably only practical if you live within an hour or so's drive of Perth - give us a ring to discuss this well in advance!
I have a non-UK driving licence, can I still hire your campervans?
Absolutely yes! Our insurance policy means there may be a few more things we will need to check in addition to your driving licence, but we can go through all this with you on the phone or by email.
Can I smoke in the campervans?
No! All our campervans are non-smoking.
Are there any penalties for altering a booking? With alterations, is the entire hire recalculated at current rates or the same rates that were quoted when the customer originally booked?
No penalties for altering a booking, but the altered booking will be Re-calculated at current rates.Terms of booking on this website

Please note that a 1.95% credit card or debit card surcharge will be added when your payment is processed.
A booking is confirmed when you have been emailed a confirmation voucher and at this stage the deposit is processed on your card and becomes non-refundable and any cancellation fees stated in the supplier's terms apply. Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date.
If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.
Please note that some suppliers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the rental period is increased, an additional deposit may be required. If the rental period is shortened which results in a reduction of the rental charges, the deposit amount will remain unchanged, and the difference between the original and revised deposit is forfeited (it cannot be used towards remaining rental charges). To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the supplier. In addition to the alteration policy of the supplier stated in their terms, the following charges will apply:
Motorhome rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency): 25.00
The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.
Vehicle Capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.
We are committed to providing a quality service and aim for complete customer satisfaction. In the event of cancellation, any refunds or penalties are detailed in the terms and conditions of your selected vehicle that you are asked to read and accept at time of booking. In the event you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the operator of the vehicle.
